Preceptor Academy set for June 18-19

We hope you can join us for the DFW Hospital Council Foundation Workforce Center’s 2015 North Texas Preceptor Academy, June 18-19 at Texas Woman’s University in Dallas. This educational event is for healthcare professionals interested in learning about precepting. Sessions are designed to help the beginner and the experienced preceptor. Preceptors serve a vital role by promoting competence, familiarity and confidence in new healthcare professionals. Learn responsibilities, communication skills, critical thinking, objectives and best practices.

Day 1: Preceptor 101 Training targeting beginner preceptors. Topics: Roles and Responsibilities of the Preceptor, Getting off to a Good Start, Adult Learning Styles, Beginning Behaviors and Ways of Thinking, Time Management and Organization and Assessing Progress.

Day 2: Interprofessional Insights for advanced preceptors. Topics: Competency Validation, Conflict Management, Cognitive Rehearsal, Tanner’s Critical Thinking/Judgment Model and the Preceptor of Year Award.

Training is targeted for both nursing and allied health professionals. Speakers include nursing and allied health representatives from North Texas hospitals and schools.

Cost is $75 for one day and $100 for two days. Cost includes continental breakfast and box lunch each day. You can attend one or two days. Preregistration is required. Seating is limited.
